Estate
Planning is seldom considered but should be a priority in one's
life. Janet Richmond, a partner at Getnick Livingstone Atkinson
and Prioe, LLP., was a recent after dinner speaker at the Little
Falls Rotary Club.
Richmond
explained the basic five step process about estate planning; 'Who'
is everyone should have a plan; 'Why' is because a good plan creates
certainty and protects your family and your children; 'When' is
as soon as possible; 'What' includes health proxy's, power's of
attorney, control payments of bills, and trusts which can protect
your assets; and lastly, 'How' is where you create an estate plan
through an attorney so that all current and future needs are considered.
Richmond
graduated from State University of New York, has worked in Washington
with the Securities and Exchange Commission and Department of Energy,
served as an adjunct professor at the University of Northern Iowa
teaching Law before moving to Utica in 1988, where she current manages
the partnership Estate Planning Department.
