Louis Baum and Jeffrey Gressler were after dinner speakers at a recent
meeting of the Little Falls Rotary Club. This year marks the fiftieth
anniversary of the society, hundredth anniversary of the YMCA and
one-hundred and eighty years since the Historical Society building
located at 319 South Ann Street (corner of Albany St. and South Ann
St.). Nat Derby and Harold Sperbeck were two early key people that
were very instrumental in fighting against urban renewal-era demolition
in the 1960's. The building, which was placed on the Historic Register
of Historic places in 1970, has had many uses during its lifetime.
It was the first bank in Little Falls and Herkimer County, a storage
facility for Lovenheim's (now Pohligs), a funeral parlor, a mail delivery
service as well as many other uses. The museums main focus this year
is the ADAPTIVE REUSE and CHURCHES in Little Falls.
Visitors are welcome during opening which is Tuesday - Friday from
1-4 and Saturday from 10 - 1.
